Packaging recycling is a challenge in the food industry

Share

Reusing plastics is one of the assumptions of implementing a circular economy. In the food industry, it is a particular challenge. Environmental protection collides with food safety, consumer expectations and real costs for producers. Everything is accompanied by specific regulations. Representatives of the Law Firm Sobczyńcy i Partnerzy Adwokaci i Radcowie Prawni will talk about them during the POLAGRA fair. Its participants will receive an invitation to the fair.

Recycling of packaging is a process that has a positive impact on the environment, which minimizes the use of natural resources (in the case of plastic, these are petroleum derivatives). The circular economy assumes that packaging made from natural raw materials will be increasingly replaced by recycled ones. That is why packaging waste is used to produce recyclate - granules, from which new packaging, including food packaging, is produced. In the food industry, which introduces large amounts of plastic packaging to the market, it is of particular importance. It also presents specific challenges.

The interests of the consumer, the possibilities of the producer

A big challenge for the implementation of recycled packaging is its cost. Manufacturers are not willing to incur high financial outlays for such activities. In times of rising costs, it's hardly surprising.

However, consumers are increasingly paying attention (and producers are boasting about this information) to what extent the packaging was made of recyclates. On the other hand, they expect the recycled materials used for food packaging to be safe for them. Recyclate must meet the standards of chemical composition. Harmful substances cannot penetrate the food.

The challenge of recycling in the food industry

However, this is only one of many standards that recyclates used in the food industry must meet. Experts from the law firm Sobczyński i Partnerzy Adwokaci i Radcowie Prawni will talk about these and others during the POLAGRA fair.

training "Recyclates in food packaging - how to implement it at a food producer and recyclate processor?" will take place on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 13:30-14:30 (Pavilion 5, Trends Stage). Representatives of the law firm will also be present for three at their stand in the Law Firm Zone.

People who register for the training by filling out the form will receive an invitation to the POLAGRA fair.
