What drives the growth of the food industry, and where can we find new impulses for further change? These were the key questions discussed by experts during the “Impulse for Innovation” debate at POLAGRA 2026.

What really drives innovation in the food industry today?

The discussion showed that innovation today is no longer limited to a new product or technology. It is also about responding to changing consumer needs, the development of new sales channels, production automation, cost pressures, the green transition, and labour market challenges. Another important topic was the role of science, knowledge and skills in strengthening the competitiveness of the sector.

The discussion brought together:

  • Maciej Ptaszyński – Polish Chamber of Commerce
  • Tadeusz Mroczkowski – President of the Management Board of SM Mlekpol
  • Łukasz Przesmycki – Expert at Grupa Progres
  • Szymon Grunwald – Polish Vending Association
  • Prof. Bartosz Sołowiej – University of Life Sciences in Lublin

The key takeaway? The growth of the industry is increasingly driven by the intersection of market needs, technology, production, science and people – while innovation is becoming an ongoing process rather than a single breakthrough.

Thank you to all the panellists for a valuable and insightful discussion on the changes shaping the industry. More debates, meetings and business discussions are still ahead of us.
